Hundreds of Srebrenica genocide victims awaiting identification

Autor: half
SARAJEVO, July 4 (Hina) - In tracing people gone missing in the 1992-95 Bosnian war, experts have found the remains of about 7,000 people killed in the Srebrenica genocide, but at least 200 bodies will probably never be identified, Missing Persons Institute director Amor Masovic told Oslobodjenje daily of Wednesday.

According to official figures, 8,732 Bosniaks went missing after the fall of Srebrenica in July 1995, he said, adding that the remains of the Srebrenica victims had been exhumed at more than 100 locations, even in Belgrade.

He said some bodies had been dumped in the Drina river and were buried in Serbia after floating to its territory.

In some cases, only bone fragments of one person have been found, which proves that the bodies were relocated several times and destroyed in an attempt to cover up the crimes committed by Bosnian Serb troops.

A committee organising the 17th annual commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide has said that 519 victims have been identified and will be buried at the Potocari memorial complex on July 11. Among them are six boys who were under 15 when they were killed and four women, the oldest of which was 94.
