ZAGREB, May 29
(Hina) - On the occasion of the International Day of
United Nations' Peacekeepers, observed on 29 May, Croatia's Deputy
Foreign and European Affairs Minister Josko Klisovic, Assistant
Defence Minister Dragan Lozancic and the UNDP Resident Representative
to Croatia, Louisa Vinton, on Tuesday placed a wreath at the monument
erected at Zagreb's Pleso Airport in tribute to UN blue berets who
gave their lives in missions, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a
statement.
The wreath-laying ceremony ushered in other events which are scheduled to be held on Tuesday to mark the 20th anniversary of the admission of Croatia to the United Nations.
Croatia was admitted to the UN on 22 May 1992, by the acclamation of the General Assembly and after previously being recognised by a number of countries, including all countries of the then EU, Russia and the United States.
