This matter will not be regulated by the Family Act because there are still different positions on child adoption, Pusic said on Friday.
"This is not a part of the Family Act because you must enforce what is a matter of consensus, and this means that there are still different positions on child adoption," Pusic told reporters after the issue was raised in public by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who had been quoted by the Jutarnji List newspaper as saying that his government would raise the rights of homosexual couples to a higher level.
Pusic said that alongside other legal issues those partnerships should be put on an equal footing but that this would require greater maturity of society as a whole. In her opinion there are too many parentless children living in children's homes and it would be better for them to have families.
