May Day passing without usual protests in Bosnia, Montenegro

Autor: half
ZAGREB, May 1 (Hina) - International Workers' Day was passing without the usual workers' protests in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday, with union leaders warning about the prodigality of the incumbent authorities.

The Federation of Independent Trade Unions held a Main Committee meeting at which it warned about the poor position of workers.

The president of the Independent Trade Unions of the Federation entity, Josip Milic, said at a round table the arrogance of the authorities in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton was monstrous, warning that unions would not agree to a seven per cent salary cut in the public sector while the government's prodigality was increasing.

In Montenegro, there was also an absence of workers' rallies, protests and marches usually held on May Day.

The Federation of Free Trade Unions invited citizens to a big protest rally on May 5 to voice their dissatisfaction and concern over higher prices of food and energy sources, growing unemployment and layoffs, lower wages, new taxes, bad privatisations, and organised crime.

The SSCG union federation issued a May Day Manifesto saying the government should take more drastic and systematic action to kickstart the economy and create new and preserve existing jobs.
