The focus of this year's symposium, organised by the Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR) under the auspices of President Ivo Josipovic, will be on knowledge, skills and safety at work in human demining projects. The conference lasts until April 26.
Sibenik-Knin County head Goran Pauk said that 25.9 square kilometres of land in this county had been cleared of mines from 1998 to 2011, which cost about 270 million kuna (36 million euros), adding that 48.6 square kilometres remained to be cleared. He mentioned excellent cooperation with Germany, thanking it for its donations for mine removal projects.
German Ambassador Bernd Fischer said that his country had so far donated 8 million euros for demining projects in Croatia. He advised Croatia to get involved at all levels to prove to the European Union administration in Brussels that it was in the interest of EU countries to clear the territory of a new EU member as soon as possible.
