KINKEL SUPPORTS CROATIA'S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY

Autor:
BONN, Nov 19 (Hina) - Following the talks with Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mate Granic on Friday, German Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel explained to reporters some parts of the peace initiative he had put forward together with French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe earlier this month. Commenting on fears in Croatia that it would be hard to reintegrate the occupied territories if sanctions against Serbia were lifted too soon, Mr Kinkel said: "Of course we support Croatia in regard to the territorial integrity of its territories currently under the protection of UNPROFOR. The integrity of the Republic of Croatia on the whole of its territory has never been disputable for us." Mr Kinkel went on to say that measures must be found to build confidence on both sides, which would give both sides the feeling, through traffic links and other communications, that they were getting closer in solving problems. Mr Kinkel expressed satisfaction that Mr Granic visited him today, ahead of a meeting of the Ministerial Council of the European Union in Luxembourg on Monday which will discuss the situation in former Yugoslavia. Mr Kinkel said today's talks focused on the peace initiative of Croatian President Tudjman and the Franco-German initiative. 192009 MET nov 93
