ZAGREB, Nov 5 (Hina) - In connection with an agreement on
cease-fire in Sector East, signed yesterday by Major-General
Djuro Decak, commander of the Croatian Army Operative Zone in
Osijek, and Colonel Bogdan Sladojevic, commander of the Serb
armed forces on the Croatian occupied territory, UNPROFOR
released a statement on Friday, saying that the agreement
"includes provisions crucial to UNPROFOR in effectively
fulfilling its mandate, also providing for significant monitoring
role."
The UN Force Commander, General Jean Cot, was quoted as saying
that "my goal is for all weapons to be silenced in order to
create favourable conditions to facilitate negotiations on a
global cease-fire agreement. I warmly commend Brigadier-General
Peeters for the successful negotiations he has conducted in
Sector East. This is a first stage in the UNPROFOR step-by-step
approach to a global cease-fire."
