SPLIT, Dec 16 (Hina) - The Washington agreement on establishing the
Moslem-Croat federation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and linking it in a
confederation to Croatia, saved many lives but there were still
difficulties in its implementation, Bosnian President Alija
Izetbegovic said today.
Speaking at a press conference in the southern Croatian city
of Split after meeting with UN special envoy Yasushi Akashi,
Izetbegovic said he was travelling to Zenica, central Bosnia, where
the Federation's Constituent Assembly adjourned a session after
disputes over key government posts.
Asked what he expected from the Federal Assembly, Izetbegovic
replied that he could not decide on its issues because he was not a
federal official.
On a confederation with Croatia, the Bosnian president said
that the Bosnian federation must be implemented first, adding that
he thought that a confederation with Croatia would much more
difficult because the Croatian people woould have to hold a
referendum on the issue.
