ZAGREB, Nov 8 (Hina) - UNPROFOR's impression from the latest
meetings with Bosnian Serbs is that they are under such military
and political pressure that they could be prevailed upon to
reconsider accepting the Contact Group peace plan, UN spokesman
Michael Williams told a news conference today.
UN Civil Affairs Chief, Victor Andreev, talked with one of the
Bosnian Serb leaders, Nikola Koljevic, at Pale yesterday afternoon.
Andreev also had a brief meeting with Radovan Karadzic.
The talks focused on the deterioration of the military
situation in and around Sarajevo, clearances for the passage of UN
fuel convoys for eastern Bosnia and the kidnapping of two Bosnian
doctors.
The two doctors were kidnapped from a UN vehicle on October 27
while travelling to Gorazde in line with a Red-Cross-brokered
agreement on humanitarian issues of October 1.
The special representative of the UN secretary-general,
Yasushi Akashi, is expected to return today from a high-level
meeting of UN officials and representatives of the Conference on
Former Yugoslavia, called by Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
The meeting discussed the situation in former Yugoslavia and
future developments, including a possible withdrawal of UN peace-
keepers from Bosnia-Herzegovina.
According to Williams, the meeting noted some positive shifts
in Croatia, such as recent talks between Croatian government and
local Serb representatives.
The situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, however, was described as
very serious, Williams said.
