ZAGREB, Nov 4, (Hina)- Croatian President Franjo Tudjman today
visited Karlovac where he met refugees and displaced people and
discussed home eviction problems.
The President's words were aired on Croatian Television.
"It is understood that the problem of evictions cannot be
looked at in isloation, but rather in the context of having 300,000
displaced people from Croatian territory, as well as refugees from
Bosnia," Tudjman said.
"We've had families of killed soldiers, and the disabled who
have had to be taken care of. Under such circumstances the
justifiable thing to do was to resolve their housing problems
taking into account apartments left by occupying forces, i.e the
aggressors, and alleviate the plight of Croatian victims," Tudjman
said.
"It is understood that some people, without any moral right,
have tried to take advantage of the situation and wrongfully moved
into those flats. We want this issue to be solved legally but
taking into account the current situation."
