ZAGREB, Nov 4, (Hina)- Talks in Zagreb between Croatian and
Yugoslav delegations on normalising relations between the
countries, which were led by respective foreign ministers, Mate
Granic and Vladislav Jovanovic, ended without significant results
this afternoon.
Today's negotiations began and ended with both sides remaining
on opposite sides.
The ministers agreed that the talks reflected the differences
in the content and methodology for resolving problems between the
two countries.
"The fundamental issue for Croatia is its recognition within
internationally recognised borders," Granic said.
"Not just for the sake of another country recognising Croatia
but for the sake of peaceful reintegration of the UNPAs." When this
happened Jovanovic's proposals would be acceptable, Granic added.
Granic said the two parties would continue talks.
Jovanovic said that he favoured a 'pragmatic approach' in
solving the problems which meant following a step-by-step course.
He added that the "two countries should start by restoring
communications, transport, cultural and sports links to pave the
way for the subsequent resolution of more complicated issues".
The ministers said they agreed to make a start on resolving
certain humanitarian issues such as the problem of missing and
detained persons and improving conditions for the work of their
Government offices in Zagreb and Belgrade.
The ministers' next meeting is to be arranged at a later date.
