PRESIDENT TUDJMAN RECEIVES OWEN AND STOLTENBERG

ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - Croatian President Dr. Franjo Tudjman last night received the International Conference on Former Yugoslavia co-chairmen, Lord David Owen and Thorwald Stoltenberg, and the International Conference ambassador, Kai Eide. The one-hour talks focused on the reintegration of the UN Protected Areas (UNPAs) of Croatia in the spirit of the UN Security Council Resolution 947. After his visit to Moscow Lord Owen confirmed that Russia as well as the USA and the European Union supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Croatia. President Tudjman and his interlocutors spoke about possibilities of resumption of the negotiating process in Croatia. In this context Croatia stressed its interest in the implementation of relevant UNSC resolutions and the Vance Plan, and insisted on the immediate and gradual reintegration of the UNPAs. They also discussed the concrete problems such as the pipeline, reopening of the Zagreb-Lipovac-Belgrade- highway, water supplies for Zadar and the return of displaced persons. In agreements on normalization of Croatian-Serbian relations it is high time that Belgrade recognized Croatia within its internationally acknowledged borders, and the recognition could be a clear sign to Croatia's Serbs to start negotiating with the Croatian Government. President Tudjman and the International Conference on Former Yugoslavia officials discussed the crisis in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The co-chairmen said they had information on a decrease in traffic from Serbia across the Drina River to Bosnian Serbs. They also considered divisions among supporters to the Great Serbia plans, and new surprising proposals in this connection. The talks were attended by the head of the Croatian President's Office, Hrvoje Sarinic, Deputy and Foreign Minister Dr. Mate Granic, the head of the Office for National Security, Krunoslav Olujic, and an aide to the President in internal affairs, Dr. Ivic Pasalic, the President's office said in the statement.
