ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - The Bosnian President's Office released a
statement Saturday expressing the Bosnian government's view on
lifting the arms embargo. Hina received a copy today.
The statement said the government's view remained unchanged,
stressing that it was based on the "inalienable right to self-
defence."
"We expect US President Clinton to forward a letter to the
Security Council requesting the embargo to be lifted by the end of
October this year. If this request is rejected, we expect him to
propose to the US Congress to lift the embargo unilaterally."
The statement said the Bosnian government offered to postpone
the embargo's lifting for six months "to make it easier for the
Security Council to reach agreement on the matter and to remove a
reason for UNPROFOR's withdrawal, particularly from the Serb-
besieged enclaves of Srebrenica and Zepa near the Drina River."
