ZAGREB, Aug 5 (Hina) - The Croatian government's representatives
and the U.N. Protection Force (UNPROFOR) signed an agreement in
Zagreb on Thursday on procedures of passage U.N. convoys and
vehicles into Croatian occupied areas, i.e. the U.N. Protected
Areas (UNPAs).
Complying with this deal the Croatian government assumes
commitment to respect UNPROFOR's status, immunity and privileges,
whereas UNPROFOR should undertake measures aimed at preventing the
abuse of its position, privileges and authorities. UNPROFOR should
also inform the Croatian government in advance of movements of its
convoys and contents of their loads, according to the agreement.
A representative of the Croatian government will be able to
require that a UNPROFOR vehicle be examined before passing
checkpoints, if he/she suspect with reason that the vehicle
transports goods without permission or the forbidden goods. In case
the joint examination proves that the vehicle disobeys rules it
will not be allowed a free passage.
