ZAGREB, July 7 (Hina) - Prime Minister Nikica Valentic and several
ministers in the Government will meet with fishermen's
representatives on Monday. As Prime Minister Valentic told today's
session of the Croatian Government, the meeting will attempt to
resolve the major problems of the marine fishing, including the
recent increase in fuel prices, which triggered this week's
fishermen's protests in all Croatian ports. "When it has been
proved that the Government's decision (to increase the prices) was
wrong, the Government is going to put the matter right, but it will
not change the basic principles of its policy," the Prime Minister
said. "If the fishermen prove that their businesses will really
fail because of the new fuel prices, we are going to find some
solution, but within the system," he stressed.
Minister of Transport Ivica Mudrinic called on the fishermen
to suspend the protests and wait for the Monday meeting.
