ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - The eviction of Melkic family, resident of
3 Kombolova Street, Zagreb, was postponed on Tuesday till further
notice, said the Zagreb Office for Construction and Municipal
Services, which was engaged to perform the eviction. The eviction,
scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed because of the "presence of a
great number of people in the apartment," said the Office in a
statement. Representatives of the Croatian Helsinki Committee, the
US embassy in Zagreb, members of several opposition parties and a
number of Croatian and foreign journalists had come to witness the
eviction.
The Croatian Helsinki Committee on Sunday invited the
President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,
Miguel Angel Martinez, to be present at the "violent and unlawful
eviction of the Melkic family from a former Yugoslav army
apartment." Martinez arrived in Croatia on Monday.
