ZAGREB, June 14 (Hina) - Some 150 Moslems Monday morning crossed
onto the eastern bank of the Drina River in Gorazde and conflict
with armed Serbs was avoided thanks to the UNPROFOR mediation,
UNPROFOR spokesman in Zagreb Matthew Nerzig told a news conference
on Tuesday. "The Moslems crossed the river to reap the crop on
their fields," Nerzig said. "They passed the UNPROFOR checkpoint
and then came accross a group of armed Serbs who live in this area.
The subsequent arrival of another 15 to 20 armed Serbs further
complicated the situation," Nerzig said.
After an UNPROFOR official talked with both sides, the Serbs
left the 3-km exclusion zone and the Moslems returned to the right
bank of the Drina.
Nerzig described yesterday's incident as "disturbing" because
of the presence of armed Serbs within the 3-km exclusion zone.
