ZAGREB, Apr 7 (Hina) - Explosions that started at 13:45 hours
Thursday as a fire broke out in an ammunition warehouse in the
Zagreb suburb of Sesvete have not stopped yet.
An ad hoc alert committee, headed by Prime Minister Nikica
Valentic, decided this afternoon that the immediate danger zone (up
to 2.5 km from the centre of the explosion) should be evacuated.
The rallying point is the Sesvete railway station. The evacuees are
to be put up at sport halls in Zagreb, where they will probably
stay for a day or two.
Children from the Luka Sesvete day care centre have been
evacuated to the Mihaljevac nursery school.
Residents of the nearby suburbs have been instructed to stay
at home and listen to radio and TV news.
The culture and education ministry said elementary and high
schools in the suburbs of Sesvete, Dubrava, Dugo Selo and Zitnjak
would be closed until the situation had been resolved.
