SPLIT, Mar 16 (Hina) - Laboratory for identification of the victims
of war using DNA molecules was opened today at the Department of
Pathology in the Split Clinical Hospital, attended by Prefect of
the Split-Dalmatia County Kruno Peronja.
The delivery of the American laboratory was marked by the
arrival of several renowned American experts headed by Dr. Michael
M.Baden, director of Laboratory for Forensic Medicine in the state
of New York. They are to identify 20 bodies of HVO defenders who
were killed almost two years ago in the clashes with JNA units near
Kupres (under Serb control, 100km west of Sarajevo). Dr.Baden
participated in the investigation on the killing of President
Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
Croatian emigrants in US collected a portion of the money for
the equipment with considerable help from the American goodwill
society "Americares". The laboratory will also be used for
clarifying criminal cases, detection of genetic disorders and other
diagnosis.
