ZAGREB, March 7 (Hina) - The meeting of French and Croatian
journalists held today in Zagreb in the organization of the
Croatian Journalist Society discussed the position and difficulties
in the work of journalists and media in France and Croatia.
President of the Association for the European Cultural Unity,
Gilles Martinet, former editor-in-chief of France Presse, and
currently director of the periodical "France-Observateur", spoke
about the relation between the media and the state in France,
especially in the period following 1982 and 1986, when the forming
of independent radio and TV stations had been legalized.
President of the Croatian Journalist Society Ante Gavranovic
spoke about the position of journalists and media in Croatia. He
referred to the digressions which occurred in the privatization
process, and the legally still unsolved status of Croatian
Television.
The discussion also touched on issues of censorship and self-
censorship, while several Croatian journalists criticized the work
of the Croatian Television Council and entire activity in that
media institution.
