ZAGREB, Feb 17 (Hina) - General George Joulwan, the Chief Commander
of NATO forces for Europe and Commander of the US military
formations in Europe, arrived in a short visit to Zagreb from
Brussels, said Spokesperson of UN Secretary General's Special Envoy
Yasushi Akashi.
General Joulwan is to meet with Yasushi Akashi early Thursday
afternoon and afterwards with UNPROFOR Commander General Jean Cot
and Generals John MacInnis and Charles Ritchi. The Commander of
'blue helmets' in Bosnia-Herzegovina, General Michael Rose, is also
expected to participate in the talks, said UNPROFOR HQ in Zagreb.
Representative of the NATO Supreme military command's Office
for public relations in Brussels, Major Roger de Boer, told HINA by
phone that General Joulwan would meet in Zagreb with Admiral Jeremy
Boorda, the NATO South Wing Commander.
The NATO Council empowered Admiral Boorda, by the decision
dated 9 February, to launch air strikes at gun positions in the
region of Sarajevo, including the positions out of 20 km range
defined by UNPROFOR as responsible for attacks at civilian targets
in the town.
The deadline for withdrawal of Serb artillery and for
UNPROFOR's taking over the control of heavy weaponry in the
Sarajevo region expires at 01.00 hrs, according to Central European
time, on 21 February.
General Joulwan's talks in Zagreb will focus on discussing
details about co-ordination of operations between NATO and
UNPROFOR, said NATO HQ.
