SPLIT, Feb 16 (Hina) - Upon arrival at Split airport from a seven-
hour visit to Sarajevo Wednesday, International Olympic Committee
President Juan Antonio Samaranch told reporters he had met with
Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic and Prime Minister Haris
Silajdzic. He said he thought they were "ready to support the
Olympic truce as they have agreed to release some of the detainees,
mainly Croats, from their prisons."
Before leaving Sarajevo, Samaranch and his associates met with
UN commanders in Bosnia Michael Rose and Jean Cot. Samaranch said
the meeting at Sarajevo airport was "useful."
"Today I have been most impressed by Zetra. I stood on the
same place from which I closed the Sarajevo Olympics ten years ago,
only instead of glitter and joy now there are ruins and sorrow
everywhere," said the president of the International Olympic
Committee.
Following the two-day visit to Split and Sarajevo, Samaranch
and his associates returned to Norway this evening.
