SARAJEVO, May 30 (Hina) - The UN spokesman in Sarajevo Lt. Col.
Gary Coward today confirmed that twelve British transport aircraft
would land on the Split airport, carrying first contingency of
troops, London had sent to help the UN peacekeepers in Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
The first of two light tank batteries, also aimed to give the
UN more muscle, was to reach Split today as well, Coward added.
The British troops will stay in Split for a while, since their
final destination has not been yet decided. It was only decided
that they would wear UN-marks, Cowad said, while the status of
other British troops, who were yet to come, has not been decided so
far.
UN Protection Force h.q. planned to evacuate a number of
wounded peacekeepers, along with the bodies of two dead French
soldiers, killed in recent clashes with Serbs. The Bosnian Serb
command at Pale however denied its allowance, threatening the
security of any plane landing attempt at Sarajevo airport.
