ZAGREB, May 26 (Hina) - Six bunkers were destroyed in this
morning's NATO air strike against a Serb weapons depot near Pale
outside Sarajevo, a UN envoy said.
"This morning at 0800 hours, I took the decision to authorize
further air action by NATO, which now has resulted in the
destruction of six additional bunkers at the Pale depot," the
special representative of the UN secretary general, Yasushi Akashi,
said in a statement.
Following yesterday's limited air attack on the ammunition
dump at Pale, which was authorized after Serbs failed to return for
artillery pieces to a UN weapons collection point, Serb forces
opened fire on five safe areas, he said.
Akashi stressed that "the purpose of these actions is to
restore the integrity of the Sarajevo heavy weapons agreement and
respect for the safety of civilians so that the political process
can be resumed."
He urged the parties to the conflict to reject the military
option and resume peaceful dialogue.
