ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina) - "Stronger Links with European Union" is the
headline of a report on yesterday's talks between Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman and Dr. Otto von Habsburg, published on
the front page of Zagreb-based daily VJESNIK.
On the front page the daily carries a report of its Paris
correspondent, Mirko Galic, about meetings between UN Secretary-
General Ghali and the French government. The report is headlined
"Perhaps NATO instead of UNPROFOR".
VJESNIK cites excerpts from Croatian General Janko Bobetko's
speech at the celebration to mark the third anniversary of
liberation of the Dubrovnik coastal region.
Commenting on the prospects of refugees who left western
Slavonia Vladimir Hammer wrote an article headlined "They Want to
Return to Croatia".
Reporting about the latest session of the self-styled
'Krajina' assembly of Croatian rebel Serbs Mirko Sajler believes
that even amid bitter recriminations Serb leaders from temporarily
occupied Croatian areas "have the same idea, which has been brought
about from the Belgrade scenario on setting up a Greater Serbia.
Some other variants, such as the option for the peaceful
reintegration of the captured areas into Croatian state, is out of
question for them."
The other daily VECERNJI LIST tries to probe into reasons why
lease-holders are more successful than the public corporation oil-
company 'INA' and follows what has happened after the corporation
offered to rent about 30 patrol stations.
VECERNJI LIST carries an interview with Croatian Labour and
Social Welfare Minister Joso Skara.
Commenting on the appointment of a new rebel Serb chief
commander Mrksic, Frane Plancic, writes that "General Mile Mrksic
is a citizen of Serbia and on the payroll list of the General Staff
of the Army of Yugoslavia" and adds that this fact shows the
continuation of Yugoslavia's (Serbia/Montenegro) aggression against
Croatia.
