ZAGREB, May 18 (Hina) - The committee for the celebration of
Statehood Day (May 30) today published the schedule of events.
The committee, appointed by President Franjo Tudjman, is led
by Parliament Speaker Nedjeljko Mihanovic.
"We are preparing to mark the day when we announced, at a
historical session of the Croatian Parliament after the first free
and democratic election in the Republic of Croatia, our earnest
desire and firm determination to include Croatia in the European
circle of democratic, market-oriented countries," the committee
heralded.
The celebrations will include the following events:
May 28 (Armed Forces Day) - Presentation of medals to and promotion
of military personnel at the Presidential Palace. Afternoon:
ceremonial opening of the new building of the National University
Library. Evening: finale of the Croatian Football Cup at the
Maksimir stadium.
May 29 - Solemn session of the Croatian Parliament. Presentation of
medals and awards at the Presidential Palace. Evening: Performance
of the "Nikola Subic Zrinski" opera.
May 30 (Statehood Day) - Morning: concelebrated mass for the
Homeland, wreathlaying at the Altar of the Homeland at Medvedgrad.
Reception for prominent public figures and members of the
Diplomatic Corps at the Presidential Palace. All-day program at
Jarun Lake. Afternoon: military parade. Evening: fireworks and
entertainment.
