PARISH CHURCH NEAR BANJA LUKA BLOWN UP

Autor:
ZAGREB, May 18 (Hina) - Armed Serbs yesterday physically assaulted a parish priest and two nuns in a vicarage in the village of Trn near Banja Luka. The assailants then made off with all the valuables, while the battered victims left the vicarage in considerable pain, a Zagreb-based representative of the Banja Luka diocese said today. The parish curch was blown up a little before 3 a.m. this morning, and the vicarage was put on fire. Many houses were damaged in the explosion, which razed the church to the ground. Many Catholic believers in this and other Banja Luka parishes did not dare to sleep in their homes, fearing for their lieves, the Diocese representative said. He recalled the killing of a 65-year-old couple in the village of Motike on Sunday night. The husband, Franjo Grgic, was decapitated and many other civilians suffered severe physical abuse that night. Several Catholic homes in the village of Dragocaj were damaged by bombs. ALl these crimes against civilians, Catholics and other people were instigated by the Serb authorities, the Diocese representative said. (hina) mm as 181323 MET may 95
