ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - UN military police were investigating
the death of a UN Polish peacekeeper which took place yesterday
at Vojnovac, about 80 km south of Zagreb.
UN spokesman Christopher Gunnes told a press conference in
Zagreb today that it could be said with certainty that Croatian
army troops had not been involved in the incident.
The Polish soldier was found dead on Monday morning, on a
road 300 metres from an observation post northeast of Vojnovac.
It remained unclear who had killed the UN soldier and there
was no evidence of Croatian army involvement.
Gunnes appologized for possible initial hints that the
Croatian army had been involved.
Some foreign news agencies yesterday ascribed the death of
the Polish soldier to the Croatian army.
Gunnes said that lack of precision in the Polish Battalion
report caused misinterpretation of the incident.
