NEW YORK, April 1 (Hina) - In a statement on the adoption of the
three UN resolutions on Croatia, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina
France's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jean-
Bernard Merimee, expressed satisfaction with the Croatian
Government's decision to accept the continuation of UN presence in
Croatia.
Ambassador Merimee said the resolution on the new mandate of
UN in Croatia should facilitate the UN Confidence-Restoration
Operation in Croatia in ensuring several important tasks, which his
country regarded as fundamental, such as the implementation of the
March 29, 1994 Ceasefire Agreement and the December 2, 1994
Economic Agreement, and the monitoring of Croatia's internationally
recognized borders.
He said the objective of the UNCRO presence in the Republic of
Croatia was to facilitate the achievement of a political
settlement.
He added that Croatian Government and local Serb authorities
were supposed to continue negotiations on measures aimed at the
confidence restoration, being supported in such efforts by the UN,
European Union, the Russian Federation and United States.
