ZADAR, March 6 (Hina) - Zadar-Knin County Prefect Sime Prtenjaca
today received French Ambassador to Croatia, Jean Jacques Gaillard.
Prtenjaca told Gaillard that Serb aggressors occupied 75
percent of the Zadar-Knin County's territory, and had destroyed 64
villages with Croat majority. Furthermore, 37 schools, 54 churches
and dozen Catholic cemeteries in those villages were also
devastated.
Before the war 57 percent of the County inhabitants had been
Croats, 38 percent Serbs and the rest had been other nationalities,
Prtenjaca said.
Gaillard said that all should persist in seeking the peaceful
solution to the problem of Croatia's occupied territories. In this
regard French Foreign Minister, Allan Juppe, had proposed an
initiative for a new international conference on former Yugoslavia,
Gaillard said.
He added that the initiative included Belgrade's recognition
of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as Croatia's acceptance
of the Contact Group Z-4 Plan. Gaillard believed that this paved
the way to the peaceful solution.
