OTOCEC-OB-KRKI, Feb 23 (Hina) - The joint Croatian-Slovene
diplomatic commission for borders today held their second meeting
behind closed doors in the Slovene town of Otocec-ob-Krki.
The president of Croatia's Borders Commission, Hrvoje Kacic,
said the meeting had taken place in a constructive and positive
atmosphere which reflected the improvement in relations between
Croatia and Slovenia.
Kacic said it was important that the two countries maintain
good neighbourly relations since they were interdependent.
Asked about the level of the border dispute, Kacic said that
according to the latest data, the problem involved just four square
kilometers of land.
Kacic was optimistic about resolving the border issue saying
that basic precepts would be determined to be discussed later at
high level talks.
The president of the Slovenian Borders Commission, Iztok
Simoniti, also expressed satisfaction with today's meeting.
He said that border problems encroached on the sovereignty of
any state and that it usually took several years to resolve them.
"We have tackled even the most sensitive problems and we hope
to continue in this manner," Simoniti said.
The presidents announced they would soon meet at a public
panel in Zagreb.
