ZAGREB, Feb 9 (Hina) - UN Special Envoy, Yasushi Akashi, is to meet
the Head of the Croatian Government's Commission for Relations with
UNPROFOR, Hrvoje Sarinic, today, the UN spokesman in Zagreb,
Michael Williams, said.
After meeting Sarinic, Akashi is to meet Russian Ambassador
Leonid Kerestedzhiyants, Williams said.
Asked about the situation in the UN Protected Areas following
yesterday's Knin Serb kangaroo parliament which was to decide to
declare a war alert, Col. Walt Natynczyk, said no military
movements had been reported and mine-clearing operations at railway
lines in Sector West continued.
He said there had been an exchange of fire between the
Croatian Army and rebel Serbs near the Croatian-Bosnian border,
UNPA Sector South, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Croatian Army fired 15 shells Tuesday and Serbs fired
three, while on Wednesday Serbs launched ten mortar shells and the
Croatian Army one shell.
Natynczyk added that the number of the Zagreb cease-fire
agreement violations had been decreasing recently.
Speaking of plans on the UNPROFOR withdrawal, Michael
Williams, said several cities (such as Skopje, Brindisi, Sarajevo
or some other Bosnian towns) had been taken in consideration as the
possible new venue for the UNPROFOR headquarters in the event the
headquarters leaving Zagreb.
