CHLORAMPHENICOL NOT USED IN CROATIA - MINISTRY

Autor: ;VM;
ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry issued a statement on Monday saying that chloramphenicol was not used in veterinary medicine in Croatia. The statement was prompted by a report by the German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which had been carried by Croatian newspapers, on a scandal in Germany over the use of the drug chloramphenicol in cattle treatment. The drug can be hazardous to humans when taken through food. In 1989 the Veterinary Administration issued an order in line with a decision by the European Community and recommendations by the OIE and the World Health Organization to withdraw from the market all drugs used in veterinary medicine which contained chloramphenicol as an active substance, the statement said.
