PENTAGON EXPERTS HOLD SEMINAR ON DEFENCE PLANNING IN ZAGREB

ZAGREB, 2 Dec (Hina) - U.S. military experts are holding a seminar on strategic planning, modeling and simulations on Monday and Tuesday in the Croatian Defence Ministry. The seminar is a result of the successful cooperation between the Croatian and U.S. defence ministries, Croatian Defence Ministry said in a statement Monday. #L# The seminar is held by Frederick L. Frostic, deputy to the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defence and Daniel Chu, head of the Washington office of RAND Corporation which is devising long-term development plans for the Pentagon. The seminar is attended by the highest officials of the Croatian Defence Ministry and Croatian army main headquarters. Frostic is working with the U.S. Defence Ministry and he is in charge of defining guidelines for defence planning and the planning of U.S. army special operations, Croatian Deputy Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Kresimir Cosic, said in an introductory speech. In his lecture, Frostic informed participants in the seminar about U.S. experience in planning defence and the importance of analysis in balancing defence plans. The head of the RAND Corporation Washington office, Daniel Chu, whose works also include an extensive study on NATO enlargement, and who is an expert on the management of budget assets for defence, spoke about the management of budget assets for defence and ways of selecting staff. Lieutenant General Cosic stressed in his introductory speech that one of priorities in the project of long-term planning in the Croatian Defence Ministry was the establishment of an office which would be in charge of analysis and evaluation of development and defence programs. The seminar is aimed at establishing a scientific approach toward the strategic planning of defence and facilitating the establishment of a foundation for a long-term development of defence, the statement said.
