ZAGREB, 13 Dec (Hina) - The House of Representatives on Friday
adopted a Law on the Rights of Croatian War Veterans and Members of
Their Families. The law was adopted unanimously. #L#
The law creates a peace-time legal framework for financial
help to Croatian war invalids, defenders and families of Croatian
war victims.
The law gives a clear definition of the use of family property
- widows and children have the right to family property, while
parents have the right to the maximum disability allowance.
The law also sets deadlines for the solution of housing
problems of Croatian defenders. According to the law, the housing
problems of !00%-invalids and families of killed, missing and
imprisoned Croatian soldiers will be solved during the next year.
The law includes the widening of the right to unemployment
insurance, which would include demobilized soldiers and grown-up
children as well as temporary unemployment insurance for widows,
until they find adequate jobs.
According to the law, special protection and care will be
provided for the children of killed Croatian war veterans.
The government pledged to inform Parliament each six months
about the results of the active policy of employment of demobilized
soldiers and family members of killed Croatian war veterans. The
government is also to report quarterly about the implementation of
deadlines and exercise of rights envisaged by the law.
