ZAGREB, Nov 14 (Hina) - The Croatian Displaced Persons' Association
on Thursday asked the UN Transitional Administrator for the
Croatian Danubian area, General Jacques Klein, to prevent a
celebration which is planned to be prepared by Serbs in Vukovar on
November 18.
The Displaced persons also asked the Croatian government to
take "every measure" to prevent the celebration.
At Thursday's session of the Displaced Persons' Association in
Zagreb, president Mato Simic said that the self-established Serb
authorities had pronounced November 18, the day of occupation of
Vukovar, a holiday.
Simic quoted the decision which said that the day was being
declared a non-working day so that the local residents could
"celebrate the day of Vukovar's liberation as well as possible".
The Displaced Persons' Association forwarded Klein "the most
austere protest", requesting him to "prevent the celebration of the
slaughter of the citizens of Vukovar".
The Association asked the government to immediately stop
sending money for salaries to clerks of the local Serb
administration in the Croatian Danubian area which made decisions
as the one mentioned above.
