RIJEKA, Nov 13 (Hina) - The association of ethnic Italians in the
northern Croatian Adriatic port city of Rijeka on Tuesday evening
celebrated the 50th anniversary of its foundation.
The celebration was attended by Croatian Parliament Upper
House Speaker Katica Ivanisevic, Assistant Foreign Minister Jaksa
Muljacic, Italian Foreign Ministry Ambassador Viscenzo Manno and
the mayors of several Italian cities.
The president of the Association of Italians, Elvia Fabijanic,
said that the Italian community wanted to contribute to the role of
Rijeka as a Meditarranean and European city.
Rijeka Mayor Slavko Linic thanked the Italian community for
perseverence in the defence and preservation of their right to
national identity.
Manno emphasized the importance of the recently signed
Italian-Croatian agreement on the protection of minorities.
