KORNBLUM AND BOSNIAN PRESIDENCY MEMBERS HOLD CLOSED-DOOR TALKS

Autor:
SARAJEVO, Oct 21 (Hina) - U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, John Kornblum on Monday held separate meetings with Alija Izetbegovic, Kresimir Zubak and Momcilo Krajisnik, three members of Bosnia- Herzegovina's Presidency in Sarajevo. After the closed-door meetings the participants declined to give public statements. Bosnian state-owned media said the chief reason of Kornblum's visit to Sarajevo was talks on the future functions of the Bosnian Presidency, the establishment of the Bosnian ministerial council and other joint bodies of authority. The American diplomat held talks with Izetbegovic and Zubak in the Presidential Building, whereas he had to talk with Krajisnik in the U.S. Embassy in the Bosnian capital. Television crews were not allowed to be near the Embassy facilities during the meeting. However, a meeting of the Presidency's three members could be expected tomorrow, according to a short written statement issued after the Zubak-Kornblum talks. The Croat representative and American diplomat also discussed difficulties in the Croat-Moslem Bosnian Federation. Later on Monday diplomats of France, Germany, Great Britain and Italy arrived in Sarajevo for talks with Izetbegovic on establishment of joint governing bodies in Bosnia-Herzegovina. John Kornblum would tour to Banja Luka on Tuesday to persuade Bosnian Serb leaders to participate in local elections in Bosnia (due to be in the end of November), a spokesman for the State Department, Nicholas Burns, said in Washington. Burns added that Bosnian Serbs failed to fulfill their commitments, as they had not agreed on holding municipal elections. (hina) mš 212219 MET oct 96
