After the meeting, which took place in the Sheraton hotel in
Zagreb, 'Apel' president Zdenka Farkas said she expected that the
international commission for missing persons in the former
Yugoslavia, entitled 'Blue Ribbon Commission', would provide help
in the solution of the problem of missing and imprisoned persons.
The establishment of the 'Blue Ribbon Commission' was proposed
by U.S. President Clinton and the commission recently held its
first meeting in Geneva.
The families of missing and imprisoned persons knew that the
answer as to the whereabouts of their dearest ones was in Belgrade,
Farkas said.
'Yugoslav authorities do not want to give those data and are
lying to the Croat people and to their own people', Farkas said.
She added that she would ask from the 'Blue Ribbon Commission'
to demand from the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and the
Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) to provide data about the fate of
missing and imprisoned persons.
'Apel' and 'Croatian Mother' members were received this
morning by the British Ambassador to Croatia, Gavin Hewitt. During
the meeting, the representatives of the two organisations stressed
that it was necessary that a Croat representative be included in
the 'Blue Ribbon Commission'.
