ZAGREB, 18 Oct (Hina) - Today's discussion of the House of
Representatives on a vote of no confidence in the Government has
not been completed yet. #L#
Explaining the decision of the Croatian Social Liberal Party
(HSLS) bench on the vote of no confidence in the Government, HSLS
president Vlado Gotovac said that a Government report on the
implementation of findings by the State Audit Office 'has
completely disappointed the expectations of the House of
Representatives and the Croatian public'. The Government had shown
with the report that it lacked will to establish responsibility for
cases of illegal use of state budget assets and external budget
funds, and therefore had to share responsibility for concealing
those irregularities, Gotovac said.
'We reject all accusations according to which the Government
did nothing after it received the State Audit report and we hold
that the request for a vote of no confidence in the Government is
unfounded', Premier Zlatko Matesa said.
So far, the vote of no confidence has been supported by
opposition representatives, while the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) bench has given their full support to the government.
During today's session, the House of Representatives also
formed an Investigative Commission for establishing the legality of
the work of the State Administration for Commodity Stockpiles and
other state bodies. The establishment of the commission was
supported with 68 votes for and two abstentions.
The Investigative Commission is to establish all important
data concerning wheat and corn export and wheat flour import. The
Commission is also to find out whether damage had been done to the
state by wheat and corn export and if so, to find out who in the
State Administration for Commodity Stockpiles is responsible for
that.
The Commission is to complete its task within six months from
its establishment.
The lower house voiced unanimous support for a Law on
amendments to the Law on the Organisation and Jurisdiction of
Ministries and State Administrative Organisations. According to the
newly-adopted law, a new ministry would be formed and it would be
in charge of return and immigration. The law also envisages the
establishment of the State Administration for the care for
demobilized defenders and civilian victims of the Homeland war.
Parliament did not accept proposals on the establishment of a
ministry for demographic revival and a ministry for the protection
of environment.
A bill on the prevention of money laundering received
unanimous support.
