ZAGREB, 15 Oct (Hina) - The Croatian Association of Displaced
Persons (ZPH) on Tuesday issued a statement with the conclusions of
the ZPH conference which was held on 12 October in Zagreb. #L#
The ZPH demanded that the elections for local self-government
bodies in eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem, be
organized by 15 December 1996, in line with the 1991 census and
existing Croatian laws.
Unless the U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution
verifying the agreements between Croatia and the international
community on the expiry of the mandate of U.N. Transitional
Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES), displaced people would
organize the return by themselves after 15 January 1997.
The ZPH would not accept the changing of ethnic composition of
the Croatian Danubian area, which was continually being imposed by
the international community.
The ZPH demanded from the Croatian Government and the U.N.
Transitional Administrator in Eastern Slavonia, to allow all
displaced people to visit cemeteries in the Croatian Danubian area,
on 1 November, All Saints' Day, and to provide security conditions,
the ZPH statement said.
