ZADAR, Oct 10 (Hina) - A trial against a former officer of the
Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) currently working at the Bosnian
Embassy in Germany, charged with war crimes against civilians, was
scheduled for 18 October by the County Court of Zadar, a coastal
town 200 kilometres south of Zagreb.
Mirsad Catic is charged with directly taking part in artillery
attacks on Zadar in late September/early October 1991. He was
arrested by the Croatian police a few months ago and is in
detention in Zadar. Catic was indited by a county prosecutor after
investigation.
A trial against former JNA general and current commander of
the Yugoslav Army Momcilo Perisic, charged with war crimes against
civilians and international law, is also to begin on 18 October.
Perisic is charged with ordering artillery attacks on Zadar
and surrounding villages which destroyed hundreds of buildings and
killed at least 30 civilians.
18 other former JNA officers who executed Perisic's orders
will also be put under trial.
