SARAJEVO, Oct 5 (Hina) - The holding of the inaugural session of
the Presidency and Lower House of Bosnia-Herzegovina announced for
2 p.m. Saturday was uncertain, spokesman for High Representative
Carl Bildt's Office Column Murphy said three hours before the
session.
"At the moment the chances are 50:50, because until today the
Serb side has not confirmed the arrival of its representatives",
Murphy told reporters in Sarajevo.
Pale had no complaints concerning the meeting to take place at
the National Theatre in the centre of Sarajevo, but Serb
representative Momcilo Krajisnik feared for his safety if he showed
up there, Murphy said.
He described the situation as unsatisfactory and pointed out
that efforts were continued to be made for Bosnia's highest state
bodies to meet as arranged.
Answering a journalist's question as to what Bildt would do if
Krajisnik did not show up at today's session, Murphy said that the
High Representative's Office could only undertake a diplomatic
action by forwarding a severe warning to Pale.
Stronger security measures were visible in Sarajevo since
morning. A large number of soldiers of the NATO-led Peace
Implementation Force was deployed along the road connecting
Sarajevo and Pale by which Serb representatives should arrive.
Strong local police is patrolling the centre of Sarajevo and
all traffic is banned on the streets surrounding the National
Theatre since 12.00 hours.
