The Serb minority in the Croatian Danubian area would be
granted all rights, Ivan Milas of the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) said.
Ivica Racan of the Social-Democratic Party (SDP) stressed that
the stand on the non-extension of the UNTAES mandate might not be
realistic. It was, however, necessary that the opinion of the
Parliament be respected as much as possible, he added.
Jozo Rados of the Croatian Social-Liberal Party (HSLS) asked
that the elections in the Croatian Danubian area be held on 15
December and that they be in line with Croatian legislature.
The Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) agreed that the resolution
should be adopted, but it also held that certain things should be
'mended' so that the dignity of the Parliament could be protected,
Luka Trconic (HSS) said.
The text of the resolution was acceptable, but the Croatian
Party of Rights distanced itself from the affirmative mentioning
of the General Amnesty Act in the resolution's preamble, Anto
Djapic of HSP said.
The Croatian Government held that the U.N. mandate in eastern
Slavonia should expire on 15 January 1997, Vice Premier Ivica
Kostovic said, adding that it was Croatia's official stance.
