ZAGREB, Sept 18 (Hina) - The Croatian Defence and National
Security Council on Wednesday held a session under the
chairmanship of President Franjo Tudjman to discuss the holding
of elections in the UN-administered area of eastern Croatia.
The Council said that there were no obstacles to elections
being held and that they must take place on 15 December 1996, 30
days before the expiry of the UNTAES mandate. It emphasized that
all conditions for balloting would be created by that date.
The Council stressed that the elections must be conducted in
accordance with Croatian election legislation and voter lists
drawn up in 1991, the President's Office said in a statement.
