A smaller number of poling places were still opened after 7
p.m. in Bihac, Mostar, Sarajevo and Tuzla.
On Sunday morning, the counting of votes would start at some
140 locations intended for that purpose, Fisher said, adding that
the first results could be expected Sunday evening at the earliest
or Monday morning.
According to a U.N. source, the former Bosnian Serb leader
Radovan Karadzic had also taken part in the elections, UN spokesman
Alexander Ivanko said. Karadzic was reported to have voted at a
polling station in Pale.
According to information presented by the head of the
Provisional Election Commission, Robert Frowick, some 60-70% of
voters took part in the elections. Some 20,000 voters, currently
living in the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, voted in Republika
Srpska, while some 4,000 voters from Republika Srpska voted on the
Federation territory.
A delegation of U.S. Congress and government members who were
supervising the elections stated in Sarajevo last night that the
voting had been carried out without major irregularities.
'We did not notice anything that would disqualify the election
process', the head of the U.S. delegation Richard Holbrooke told a
press conference.
Commenting on a request by the Party of Democratic Action
(SDA) that the elections in Republika Srpska be declared invalid,
Holbrooke said the problem had to be solved through the OSCE
mission.
