By sending this delegation, which had been ordered by
President Bill Clinton personally, the American government wanted
to clearly show its devotion to the peace process in Bosnia,
Holbrooke told reporters at the Sarajevo airport.
He once again categorically refuted the possibility that the
elections would legalize the breakup of Bosnia.
Bosnian Serb leaders may think what they want, but they had
signed the Dayton agreement and were obliged to implement it,
Holbrooke said.
During Thursday's meeting with the Bosnian Serb leader Biljana
Plavsic, Kornblum had reiterated the message, Holbrooke said.
He expressed conviction that the position of the United States
was perfectly clear to them.
