OSIJEK, Aug 31 (Hina) - Representatives of the U.N. Transitional
Administration for Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem
(UNTAES) at 7 a.m. of Saturday opened a market and meeting place
for citizens from both sides of the former division zone on the
Osijek-Klisa road in eastern Croatia.
Last week UNTAES opened a market on the Osijek-Vukovar road
and intends to open similar markets elsewhere as well.
There were some 2,000 people from both sides today, sellers
and buyers and those who came to see each other after five years.
Members of the Transitional Police inspected people and goods
and citizens from the area under UNTAES' control were not allowed
to bring fresh and frozen meat, alcoholic beverages and products
from Yugoslavia.
