MOSTAR, August 6 (Hina) - Mayors of Western and Eastern Mostar,
respectively Mijo Brajkovic and Safet Orucevic, on Tuesday
expressed satisfaction with the signed agreement according to which
the functions of the Mostar city administration and the activity of
the European Union in the city, called "Joint Action", would be
established.
We have terminated a long and important job and made a big
step towards solving the situation in the city, Brajkovic said,
while Orucevic expressed belief that the "Joint Action" project
would take effect, headed by EU special envoy Martin Garrod.
Now was the time for economic reconstruction and faster
employment, which were the most important things, Brajkovic said,
expressing satisfaction with the signed agreement, but warning that
"it must be clear that some won't be glad that we've done this".
The Croat side did not have a candidate for Mayor yet, but
would have one by the time the City Council convened, Brajkovic
said, adding that he expected it would take place within ten days.
"I believe the "Joint Action" project will take effect headed
by EU special envoy Martin Garrod", said Orucevic, pointing out
that "we're particularly satisfied with the fact that the
functioning of the City Council won't be stopped for more than 60
days".
Accepting the right of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to
file a complaint before the Bosnian Federation High Court in
relation to determining the regularity of the Mostar elections,
Orucevic pointed out that Mostar must be a unified city, which
could not be achieved without a joint agreement.
"We want a unified city and decisions on it to be based on
consensus, since the fate of Mostar will be tied to the fate of the
whole Federation", Orucevic said.
