UNHCR: BOSNIAN SERB AUTHORITIES RESPONSIBLE FOR BUS ATTACK

SARAJEVO, July 31 (Hina) - Spokesman for the U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Kris Janowski on Wednesday accused Bosnian Serb authorities as responsible for constant obstructions to the traffic of buses and humanitarian organizations, such as yesterday's attack in Banja Luka, north-western Bosnia. Janowski said that some 100 persons, mostly women, surrounded and blocked a bus with UNHCR plates, which was supposed to leave Banja Luka for Zenica, central Bosnia, yesterday. The women stoned the bus and hit its windows with iron bars. The Bosnian Serb police was late to arrive on the scene and the first thing they did was to test the Danish driver for alcohol. Janowski said that what had occurred was undoubtedly an attack, not only approved, but also instigated by Serb entity authorities. UNHCR forwarded a protest note to Bosnian Serb Premier in Pale Gojko Klickovic stating that they considered him personally responsible for the safety of buses connecting the two entities. A new bus left Banja Luka for Zenica today, despite yesterday's incident.
